After a significant amount of British citizens moved to the new land to avoid British persecution, Britain imposed a new and major policy in the colonies (March 22 1765, ). They started taxing for all printed resources the colonies were buying from them (newspapers, paper, etc). All colonists had to have a stamp on every taxed item they bought to prove they had paid the tax. However, this rule only applied to colonists (not the British). This law is known as The Stamp Act. The American colonists were furious, as this kind of controlling behaviour was the reason they had separated themselves from Britain. The colonists began a series of protests that caused the American revolution. The Stamp Act is significant because it triggered a series of events that caused a revolutionary war and formed what is, today, the most powerful country in the world.
