George Washington was from the colony of Virginia, and he represented Virginia in the First and Second Continental Congresses. He was the first President of the United States, and he served from 1789-1797. As well as his presidency, he is also known for leading of the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War to a victory against Britain. Furthermore, he set an example for America of what being a president should entail for future generations.
Paul Revere
Paul Revere was famous for his ride known as “Paul Revere’s Ride”. He was from the colony of Massachusetts and became very involved in the group of protesters called “The Sons Of Liberty” before he made history with his famous warning (he was also involved in the Boston Tea Party). In April of 1775, the British were in Boston and colonists thought that they were going to attack the colonies. Paul and several other riders were to be stationed in different places and be ready to warn the town of Lexington if the British were to attack. On the 16-17th, the British advanced towards Lexington and Revere was the first to make it back. Legend has it that he called out the now-famous line “The British Are Coming!”, but in reality he was trying to be as quiet as possible. Paul is considered a leader of the revolution because he helped the colonists be prepared for the war.
John Adams
John Adams was from the colony of Massachusetts, and he represented Massachusetts in the Second Continental Congress. He was one of several to work on the Declaration Of Independence and was one of two people to sign the Declaration of Independence. He was Vice President of the United States under George Washington and the Second President of the United States (1797-1801). As well as his presidency, he is also known for leading of the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War to a victory against Britain. Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was from the colony of Virginia, and he is significant because he was one of Virginia’s delegates in the First Continental Congress. He was the main author of the Declaration Of Independence and was the second person to sign the Declaration of Independence. He was The first secretary of state under George Washington, Vice President of the United States under John Adams, and the Third President of the United States (1801-1809).
Benjamin Franklin
Benjamin Franklin was from the colony of Massachusetts, and he represented Pennsylvania in the Second Continental Congress. He also worked on the Declaration Of Independence. He was extremely important in the revolution because he convinced the French to side with the Americans by introducing the Treaty of Paris, which brought the Americans to win the war. (Fun Fact: As well as being an essential component in the revolution, he also invented the lightning rod.
